Anti-Spam policies

We dislike spam, and we spent a long time subscribed to a few anti-spam mailing lists. We strongly disagree with some of the tactics proposed by a few radical members of those mailing lists, and we prefer a technological approach to combating spam, rather than a legislative one.

Frankly, we don't mind legitimate commercial enterprises sending us unsolicited email, as long as they use legitimate and properly targeted messages.  In other words, it had better be something we have a reasonable chance of being interested in! What we intensely dislike are the run-of-the-mill spammers - the scams, the false subscriptions, the forged diplomas, and so on and so and so on.

If you're a company like Microsoft, Telus, Toshiba or Compaq, or you have products related to SQL Server, Visual Basic, Lua, iPaq, Palm, ASP, or something very similar - then WELCOME! We will gladly read your messages.

Everyone else go ahead and spam us. We don't care. We probably won't even report you. Our filters will block you without any trouble.

We consult on creating mail filters for companies. Our software runs as a separate task, operating in between the two MTAs that exchange mail. It uses Microsoft SQL Server as its database server, but could also use Microsoft Access. We're not cheap - $160 per hour, and our software doesn't have a fancy GUI interface. It is written in a portable language called 'Lua', and could theoretically run under virtually any operating system, but we're a Windows shop, and we don't do Linux.
